What is the engineering club, how does it engage with students, and what does it plan to teach them? The engineering club, sponsored by Mr. Matt Massic, the engineering teacher, and run by his officers; look forward to hanging out with and engaging students in engineering problems.
Ernesto Vitela, historian, says that he will get to “see students engage in stem learning, and learn the process of engineering”, which is what he likes about the club. Along with that, he likes that there are “opportunities” in the club that he looks forward to such as welding, 3d printing, and engraving.
So what exactly does Vitela do within the club as the historian? He says he “photographs all the events” and helps students with any club related activities that students may need help on.
Massic states that the “Club is CTSO, or a Career and technical student organization”. This means that it’s a club that will teach you practical skills that could come in handy in many real life situations.
Massic goes on to say that “it’s more than a club, designed to prepare students for careers outside of high school.”
So how does Massic plan on doing this for his club members? Well, the club will “participate in leadership training and statewide competitions”
Along with that, “A lot of learning happens through officers”, because “officers learn leadership by teaching students”. According to Massic the officers are “trained at state level by industry experts.”
So after all the officers are ready to help run and teach the students overall what can the students expect to leave this club with?
Well, they can expect to learn “electric vehicle projects, team and skill building activities, civil engineering, and spend some time learning basic shop and safety skills”.
Vice president of the club, Jesus Ramos, junior, says “the club is a great place to learn and build stuff with friends, creating new bonds” and “is a great place to gain the opportunity to learn real world skill”. These shows the club isn’t just about learning and competing but also a great social space for those who are interested.
