Freshman year is the foundation to a students’ high school career. This year freshmen have varying experiences thus far.
Many of the freshmen seem to appreciate the sense of independence they now possess. In middle school, they did not have the opportunity to enjoy as much freedom. According to Freshman Alexa Aparicio Arroyo, “It feels nice to not be constantly supervised and to be given loads of freedom.”
These students have numerous goals and aspirations they wish to accomplish this school year. Freshman Caroline Hanson is currently doing soccer and hopes to “get better at it”.
Similarly, Arroyo intends to participate in tennis this year and take up badminton in the upcoming school year.
Most freshmen agree that the most challenging part about high school was adapting to the new environment. Freshman Olivia Ortiz said, “I wasn’t that familiar with the layout of the school and meeting so many new people was overwhelming for me.” However, Ortiz now feels more comfortable and wishes she had been more outgoing her first few weeks as a freshman.
One aspect of school that appears less difficult for freshmen is the work. Hanson said, “I like that the classes are easier.” She also adds that it is important for freshmen to complete their work on time so that they get good grades.
Entering high school as a freshman marks a crucial milestone and a successful first year paves the way for a promising future academic journey.
