Link Crew is an organization at Independence High School that centers around helping the new incoming freshmen. They want to make their first year of high school as fun and comfortable as possible.
Link Crew accomplishes this goal by putting all freshmen into groups with two link leaders that they can reach out to whenever they need. They also hold events throughout the year to get the freshmen involved.
One of these events is their annual Pumpkin Quest.”It’s the best event because everyone gets super into it, they run around everywhere, and are going crazy with excitement,” said Advisor Ms. Shepard.
These events help get the freshmen more involved, but they are also able to “open up more”, said Link Crew President Flor Penagos. Penagos also said they are able to “create bonds more easily.”
The culture of Link Crew is upperclassmen who want to be helpful and make the best year for freshmen that they can. This has been especially true this year because there is a very “talented, capable, and committed team” as Shepard said, that have made this year amazing.
They have had some difficulties in Link Crew like communication with the freshmen.
The main issue is getting freshmen to participate. Freshmen can be quiet and, “we can’t get them to open up often,” says Abby Caballero, Data and Platform Manager.
Despite this, Link Crew’s main goal continues to be to help freshmen in the best way possible.
Link Crew continues to develop more and become better every year. They aim to give freshmen the best experience and they don’t let the communication issues deter them from their main goal and being the best role models they can for the freshmen.
