With TikTok possibly being banned in 2025 being such a controversial topic, it was important to see how the students at Independence feel about the topic.
TikTok is an app consisting of short videos where people can post their creativity, and it has become a mainstream app. Over the years, it has become extemely popular amongst teenagers. While it is used by many Patriots at Independence, not everyone is concerned with the possibility of losing it. Freshman Muhammed Hasani said, “I don’t really care about the ban, but maybe about ten thousand influencers would’ve gone broke.” Senior Tyler Slivnik felt a bit differently and said, “It was entertaining because I had my favorite reels to watch.” Slivnik also mentioned how TikTok could lose a lot of money because of the ban.
While many knew it was going to be banned, not everyone understood why. Hasani exclaimed, “Because it’s owned by a Chinese brand, God bless America!” Slivnik said, “Probably because of the China policies.” Freshman, Lu Reh speculated that, “I think they are banning this platform because they think it is not safe and trustworthy for Americans.”
One thing that is not always agreed upon is if the ban is a good thing. Hasani said, “I don’t think it changes anything.” Slivnik disagreed and said, “Not really because it’s an app that a lot of people use and it takes away. Reh talked about how it was not good for him.
The ban on TikTok could have an impact on many students, as students are always on the app in their free time. Hasani argues, “It won’t have any effects whatsoever on the students.” Reh says, “This is going to impact student’s screen times, productivity, and how they feel.” Slivnik added that “It’ll prob impact students a lot because they won’t be on their phones as much.”
Hasani said that maybe the students will feel more on the sad side because of the ban. Slivnik agrees and says that many people will feel a little upset because it is usually the student’s favorite app.
