Becoming a successful athlete isn’t just about physical ability, it’s about the balance between the physical and mental side of it. “Being a student-athlete is a constant balancing act,” says Varsity Volleyball Player class of 25’ Genevieve De La Cruz. “You have to be disciplined and organized to succeed in both your sport and school.”
A big part of the journey is the people you surround yourself with. “The best part about being a student-athlete is the bond with your teammates,” says Varsity Volleyball Player, Cayla Morgan. Having teammates who understand the struggle makes it easier to keep going, especially when things get hectic on and off the court or field.
The mental side would be the most challenging part. “The mental side of sports is by far the toughest,” says Varsity Volleyball Player Jaelynn Morgan. “You have to overcome self-doubt and stay focused when things aren’t going your way.” Mental strength is what sets athletes apart, especially when you’re juggling school and competition.
College athletes such as Taylor Smith, American Soccer Player, say to “focus on the little things, like staying on top of schoolwork and getting rest,”. “It’s the small habits that lead to big success.” With the right mindset, support, and a little advice, you can make it through the ups and downs of being a student-athlete and come out successful on the other side”.
Resilience is key when you’re juggling deadlines, workouts, and games. Staying focused and positive in all areas of your life makes a huge difference in performance.
