Introduction to PIT Club
At our school, the PIT Club has become one of the most popular after-school programs. Founded nearly 10–12 years ago by a former PE teacher and alumni, Ryan Malone, the club offers students a space to work out, stay healthy, and connect with others who share similar goals. Sponsored by Coach Gardner, the PIT Club gives students a chance to focus on fitness and personal growth without needing a paid gym membership.
The Purpose and Activities
The main goal of the PIT Club is to give students a healthy head start in life through exercise and motivation. Members take part in a variety of activities, including weightlifting, cardio, and fun gym sessions. According to Coach Gardner, “It’s a place where kids can come to get a healthy jump start on life and also if they can’t afford a membership at a gym like EOS, we have one here for them.” The club helps students develop independence, teamwork, and confidence as they create their own workout routines and encourage each other.
Interviews and Quotes
Many students join PIT to improve their fitness and meet new people. Antonio Garcia shared, “I joined because I wanted to get fit and meet new people and I’ve done that.” He said his favorite part is “having the tools I need to get fit and people who help me work out.” Another member, Erick Hernandez, explained, “I joined because I want to get in shape. My favorite thing is that it’s a year-round club with free equipment.” Both students agreed that PIT helped them build better communication skills and confidence, and they encouraged others to join without worrying about what people think.
Impact and Future Plans
Coach Gardner has seen major growth in the club over the years, both in numbers and in student confidence. “Most students gain self-confidence and start to see themselves as the best version of who they can be,” she said. Looking ahead, she hopes to expand the club’s equipment and possibly host weightlifting competitions. With its welcoming environment and focus on improvement, the PIT Club continues to inspire students to stay active and positive physically and mentally.
