The Conjuring: Last Rites was released on September 5th, 2025; it is the last installment of the series. The director of this was Michael Chaves, and the company was New Line Cinema, Atomic Monster, and The Safran Company. The cast of the movie was Mia Tomlinson, Ben Hardy, Vera Farmiga, and Patrick Wilson; Farmiga and Wilson had been in the previous movies of this franchise. The budget of the movie was $55 million dollars, which grossed over $187 million globally on opening weekend, which marked a franchise record. Despite the highly successful box office performance, the movie did not win any nominations or awards.
The movie starts with Ed and Lorraine Warren, who were previously paranormal investigators, doing their last case with the Smurl family in Pennsylvania. The Smurl family had been experiencing violent encounters around the house after Heather Smurl’s birthday, where she had been given a mirror. They began to beg the public to help. Ed and Lorraine Warren’s daughter pleads to her parents to assist the family, to which they reluctantly agree.
There are multiple intense and emotional moments between the paranormal investigators. The raw emotions in the scenes make the audience realize how real their situation is and how they still have trust in each other. It keeps the viewer engaged and also on their toes due to the tense mood.
In my opinion, the movie is quite solid with only a few cons. To start off, the movie was 2 hours long and very slow-paced. In addition, despite being a major part of the movie, the Smurl family did not have enough screen time or much information on the family. However, I did enjoy the movie quite a lot, as it did many good things like building tension and performances, and it is sad to see this franchise come to an end.
