At Independence High School, Scott Krumpos is the dean of discipline and attendance. Krumpos plays a major role in ensuring the campus runs safely, smoothly, and efficiently. He oversees attendance, discipline, safety drills, and daily student needs. As he explained, “Safety first, always, that includes drills, evacuations, secures, lockdowns—those safety pieces, always.” He also makes sure students follow expectations so they can be successful, saying he wants them to understand “the rules of the game at Independence.” Through consistency and fairness, he works to create an environment where every student can learn and thrive.
Outside of school, Krumpos is a family-oriented person who enjoys spending time with his wife and two children. He shared that he and his wife have been together for more than two decades, proudly saying, “We just celebrated our twentieth anniversary, been together for twenty-six years.” He also loves cooking after long days of work, calling it the way he unwinds: “I walk through the door, set my keys down, and I start cooking.” Whether he’s decorating for the holidays or fishing for trout, he enjoys hobbies that help him relax and express creativity.
Before becoming a dean, Krumpos spent many years teaching biology—something he still speaks about with passion. He described teaching science as a meaningful experience, especially when he connected with students. He reflected on the impact teachers had on him growing up, saying, “I realized how impactful some of my teachers and coaches were, and I thought if I could help a couple of high school kids, then that might be a rewarding career.” Even though his role is different now, his love for science and helping students learn continues to shape how he leads.
One of the strongest qualities he brings to Independence High School is his commitment to supporting everyone on campus. He stated clearly, “My primary focus is just to support teachers and staff. That is my number one priority.” He also believes in fairness and consistency when working with students, explaining that “you take in as much information as you can, be fair, and consistent.” His dedication to students, teachers, and staff creates a culture of trust, respect, and unity—strengthining Independence High School as a whole.
