The film Coco was directed by 38-year-old American director, Adrian Molina, and 56-year-old-American director, Lee Unkrich. They are known for Directing movies at Pixar Studios. Adrian Molina also Directed movies like The Good Dinosaur (2015) and Party Central (2013). Besides Coco, Lee Unkrich also directed Toy Story 3 (2010).
The movie starts off in Mexico, where a boy Miguel (Anthony Gonzalez) lives in a small town with his family. Miguel dreams of being a musician, like Ernesto De La Cruz (Benjamin Bratt) who was a star on screen and legend before being crushed to death by a bell.
Miguel is all set up for his family trade; making shoes. The reason for this is that his family have their own thought/myth about music; Coco’s father was a musician who left his wife and daughter to chase his musical dreams.
The family has promised to never do anything with music and even ripped the man’s photograph, that image without an ofrenda made for the day of the dead, means the man cannot come back for a visit.
Anthony Gonzalez, a 13 year old star, wanted to play the part of Miguel because he relates to him. Gonzalez explains he “loves singing, he’s very determined and perseverance” just like Miguel.
Coco has that rarest of things of movies, a very heart touching one, yet emotional. It has things to say about life and memory, and how we think about the big adventure waiting ahead of us all. Which unexpectedly gave many students a jaw dropping reaction. “This movie was very wow,” Freshman Patricia Robledo explains.
This movie has a strong impression which Pixar Studios hasn’t had in a while. And with tears, the ending of Coco could be compared to the opening of the 2009 film ‘Up’.

“I wouldn’t change anything, it represents the message very well, I think the message was not only to remember the people who have been around, but to also be grateful for the family we have,” Freshman Dorian Pimentel explains.
A couple people who have watched this movie such as Sophomore Ricky Vasquez and Robledo, current students of Independence High School, said they loved this movie and would definitely recommend it to people.
