There are a few things that bring our school community together and one of them is Spiritline. Their energy, teamwork and the passion they bring to every game and event has shown so much spirit throughout the years, and it’s what makes the school pride keep on going and showing support.
Theresa Brown, Coach of Sportline and Principal Secretary, says “The purpose of the spirit line at our school is to represent the school and keep the school spirit alive.” She believes that as a team of cheerleaders, it’s their responsibility to bring energy and excitement to every event. By energizing the crowd and promoting the school spirit, they help create a fun, supportive atmosphere that hypes both the students and the players playing on the field.
During frequent cheer practices, they learn new routines for Friday nights, making sure that everything looks clean, says Brown. Brown also loves to plan spirit days with her cheerleaders to keep practices engaging and enjoyable, which also allows them to have fun while working on their performances and rallies.
Preparing for games can be really fun for cheerleaders. They all “help each other get ready, and keep a positive attitude with each-other all through the day,” says Spiritline co-captain Jasmine Harris. When being on this team, everyone is included and friends; they try to have as much fun as well as they can and hype up the crowds on game days
Even though some think a cheerleaderling might be an “easy” or “simple” sport, it really involves hard work because it also comes with talent. These cheerleaders work their hardest and use so much energy going into their practices and performances. “Being able to have great communication skills, and team work is important because in cheer they have to rely on each other a lot, because it’s dangerous to do a stunt, so they have to be able to rely and trust their team members,” says Brown. But a big challenge with the spirit line is having the “Dedication and time for full commitment to the team because it’s not an individual sport. Spirit line also has a lot of events to attend outside of school hours meaning the team needs to be free and open for practice while staying on top of our personal and academic life,” Says Junior Cheerleader, Natalie Aguirre.
Cheerleading is a dedicated sport that requires commitment if one wants to be on this team. This may sound challenging but while being on the team you will create so many fun memories and have opportunities to attend. This year the spirit line even got invited to perform at the State Farm Stadium with the Cardinals cheerleaders. This was one of the best memories that Harris had while being on the spirit line team she says.
The spirit line will continue to be the heartbeat of our school, bringing pride, energy, and bringing everyone together at every game and event. Through their dedication, teamwork, and love for what they do, these cheerleaders remind everyone that school spirit isn’t just about cheering on the sidelines, it’s also about coming together as a community and supporting one another. Whether it’s them performing under the Friday night lights or representing the school at special events. The spirit line shows that with passion and perseverance, they can make every moment count and keep the spirit of our school alive.
