The Independence High school boys varsity basketball team is focusing on defensive improvements and teamwork following their performance at the PXU Coyote Classic Tournament. They secured wins over Shadow Ridge and Trevor Brown, but losses to Sunrise Mountain and Gilbert which highlighted what they needed improvement on.
James Davis, a player on the team, pinpointed defense and unity as important areas of growth. “Defense and like being more together,” Davis stated when asked about potential improvements. He also emphasized rebounding and defensive play as key focuses for the remainder of the season.
Brennan Burgos felt mixed emotions about his performance during the tournament. “I feel like I could have done better and take some better shots but overall I did pretty good,” Burgos commented. Looking forward into the season he feels that they will “dominate”.
The team acknowledges the need to enhance their defense and teamwork. With there still being opportunity for improvement, Independence aims to make those changes in order for better results on the court.
