The Independence High School swim season was from the beginning of August to the end of October. During the season, the swimmers made victories big and small: whether it be winning a medal at championships or beating their PR. The Swim and Dive team worked hard during practices, meets and at the championships. The team is very proud with how far they have come.
In the beginning of the swim season, it was very slow because everyone was getting to know each other. Some were a lot more welcoming than others, and it took a while for everyone to become close to each other. There were a lot of activities to get everyone involved and get to know eachother before practice started.
During the swim season, they won and lost some meets, but at the end of the day everyone was there for each other during the wins and losses. Senior Aiden Resendez stated,”Everyone matches each other’s energy specifically during meets and brings all the energy up especially the kids on the back of the bus singing.” What he means by this is no matter what, people are always happy even with the losses. They know in the future they are going to do better, and they end up doing exactly that.
When it comes to swimming, the coaches and swimmers both have similar opinions about the way the season went. The coach said, “Fantastic! The team was way better than was expected. A lot of rookies out performed what is normal.” Meaning the coach believes that the swim season went way better than expected, and he is proud of the swimmers for doing so well.
On the other hand, one of the swimmers, Junior Alexis Diaz, says, “The way I feel about the swim season is sad, but I feel kinda happy too. Swimming was fun of course, but being able to feel this sad about something shows how much I truly loved it.” What he means by this is even with the swim season over, he is still happy that he created all these amazing memories and met a bunch of new people. Another swimmer, Senior Aiden Resendez, says, ”It’s sad because I really enjoyed swimming and I’m happy that I finished one milestone in my senior year.” He’s happy with how the season went, and he’s happy he accomplished so much with this season, even if he thinks he could’ve done better.
The season ended with everyone beating their personal record. People are proud that they made it so far into the season. The swimmers are also happy that the season is over, as well as the fact it ended so well. Aside from practice being hard for some people, others didn’t mind. They enjoyed the way it pushed them so hard. Overall, the swim season went well. The majority of the swimmers were very pleased with how well they did, as well as the coaches. They are very proud of everyone and how well they did this year.
